Well my enthusiasm for the super inexpensive Arion Overdrive stomp box has been knocked down a notch or two. Realistically, for the money (i think available for 15-20 bucks on-liine) it is surprisingly good but when played in a side by side test (same amp, guitar and player) with the Boss SD-1, the Arion's shortcomings are brought to the forefront.
Compared to the Boss SD-1, the Arion sounds like, well....a $20.00 stompbox. No kidding, the difference is night and day and because of that, I now have a new Boss SD-1 hooked up to the BJr.
The gain adjustment on the Boss is much more precise and effective than on the Arion and most importantly using the tone adjustment it can be perfectly dialed in to have almost zero effect on the overall tonal range of your amps sound. It can be made to simply add some hair to the sound or if desired, gritty overdrive but while keeping the basic sound of the amp. The Arion, no matter how I tried, made the BJr sound like it had an 8 inch speaker.
So if anyone wants a free Arion overdrive stomp box I'll be glad to send it to you for whatever it costs to ship. First member here at Epifriends to email me can have it. pitchm@ptd.net
