me i like analogue fx as i dont like the "lag" which digital fx seem to have ...you know when you hit the fx on there is a time delay between pressing the fx and when you hear the sound...with analogue its instantaneous also i think that most analogue fx generally only add to the original signal going through them they seem to keep the natural tone of the guitar better. first time i plugged into a pedal board with no fx running it changed the sound of the guitar completely which i didnt like....anywhoo just my opinion... at the minute im using a roger mayer voodoo vibe into an ibanez tube screamer into a dunlop cry baby pluged into the front end of my tsl 100 head (dont use fx loops for some reason)

Only 19" effects here, the output signal from my preamp is splitted, a part of it goes through a line mixer straight to the power amp, while the other part is sent from that line mixer to FX and routed back and then also goes to the poweramp. I also use a stereo 19" noisegate. I use a programmable YAMAHA DG1000 modelling preamp and wireless, so I think it makes no sense to lay cables from the wireless receiver 8 meters across the floor and then back... on the other hand I don´t have to use a stomp pedal box for distortion for the Yamaha provides exactly the kind of hot rodded british distortion I desire. The set up of my gear looks rather complicated, but the sound is very pure. The set up of all the devices only looks weird, but in fact it´s quite simple. When I was younger I had several pedal effects but I never really liked them...

i know what u mean 90 % of stomp boxes are absolute crap you really have to try a few out to find decent ones.although i have a tube screamer in my setup i hardly ever use it there is just no substitute for preamp/power amp distortion. also if you get a chance have a go on a voodoo vibe (try a strat with it) i have not found anything which is as good as this pedal. turns a squier start into a hendrix breathing monster!!!!

well, I just had this debate with myself....
Buy 450 bucks worth of pedals, cables, and a board -or- buy the Boss ME-50.
I bought the Boss ME-50. Love it. It sounds awesome with my Marshall MG30 practice amp. It also sounds good enough to use "stand alone" with phones for practice....
Anyone else here have one of these?

I have only one FX (VOX Clyde McCoy Wah) and hardly use it. I have found that most of the FX pedals out now are crap, so I just use the Overdrive channel on my amps.

I have one of the ME-50 multi FX and I love it. Some of the sounds might not sound as great as some of the more expensive analoug stomps when playing by one's self, but on stage, the only people who might notice a difference are other guitar players in the crowd. Other than that, the ME-50 is transparent--it dosen't color the guitar signal at all, and the effects are from Boss, so you know they are good if not sterling. I keep it on manual mode most of the time, but it's nice to go from a phaser to a rotary speaker touched up with a bit of, say, a Big Muff PI distortion at the tap of a toe. The variations are truly huge considering the ten banks with 3 "whole board" settings in each one. It's easy, portable, and sounds great.
