The list could go on for days but I think these are the most popular. I've been looking for one that would provide me with some sweet tone when playing live through a PA system. Right now I don't have any effects so that would be a plus. I play mainly jazz but would like to try funk so a Wah Wah pedal and some reverb would be nice. I don't want to carry a lot of stuff around so that why an all in one unit would be ideal for me. (Played guitar for 6 years, guitar player for 1 )

I haven't tried the others, but to me the POD-xt sounds incredibly like many of the real amps it attempts to model -- the ones I want, anyway. It's as if I'm hearing them coming live through monitor speakers in a studio control room with the amp mic'd well out in the studio.
But, what I prefer is the earlier POD models -- the original and the 2.0 version (which is still available). Those sound to me more like real amps being played back through studio monitors after having been recorded well to analog tape.
By the way, the POD-xt's virtual stompboxes are pretty cool and are alone worth the price of the unit -- in fact, I only use my xt for those (when I want a special effect) and go with the earlier PODs otherwise -- which sound great without needing effects.
PODs all I use for recording nowadays, and I've been told I get some great tones....

Well, first I must say I edited the first post... there was an "A" missing in the word "Amp" in the headline... ;D Mhm, Geezer you forgot the Yamaha modellers, that are in my opinion the best of all. The DG Stomp and also the DG1000 rackmountable 19" device are outstanding. The DG 1000 has no built-in effects, no real cabinet simulation (just a simple high cut filter), but it has the better sound, and is indeed designed for being played over a poweramp and real cabinets. The DG Stomp is more alike the POD.

I havent tried the tonelab pedal. But isn't it the same as the 120 valvetronix amps. If they are I must say that they are awesome! I have tried the 120 watter head and cab and the sounds were really sweet. But there are so many feutures, so if you want something simple it might not be for you. I havent tried the others, so I cant compare them. Let us know what you think if you try them out!

Mhm, Geezer you forgot the Yamaha modellers, that are in my opinion the best of all. As I wrote, I haven't tried any others -- once I heard the original POD I knew I'd found what I was looking for and grabbed one. Until then, living in an apartment overlooking an alley and under a local airport's flight path, I had no way to record electric guitar to my liking. I next got the POD-xt for its stompboxes -- I don't like the amps as much and feel they need the effects to sound good whereas the original POD is great no matter if I start with manual settings or the presets. I later bought a POD 2.0 (yes, I have all three -- you can see why I might not want to try anything else at this point!) to add the versatility of being able to mix and match cabinet models while still retaining the audio qualities I prefer.

I voted for the VOX I have to go with these, even though I think all the others sound great, as this one uses a real tube to get the characteristics of power amp breakup, instead of a cpu.

Out of the choices given I have only tried the VOX and the Line6. I like the VOX best for the same reason mandough gave. I have not played any of them live or outside the GC store even, so I can't comment about that.

I'll be buying a Vox AD50VT and a Tonelab SE next Saturday, so that would be my preference.
I had a Yamaha DG60fx and really liked that amp. Terrific clean sound and most of the effects were usefull and sounded good.

I use a J-Station, which I really like, but I'm in love with my son's AD15VT.. I want the 50 watt job really bad!
