I have a YAMAHA something or other in mine. Its like 3 years old and still works fine for most aplications. But I bet someone more in the know about computers can recomend a top of the line new one. Cage and Ol'Geezer seem to be up to speed in that department.
Soundblaster is pretty good I am told. Thats what came with my computer before my brother-in-law gave me the Yamaha card he didn't need anymore.

I think it all depends on what you want to do (and how much you want to spend): how many inputs you need etc. If you need to record 8 tracks simultaneously then you'd be looking at some pro sound cards. I had a similar query and received some valuable info on this forum. Look under subject 'Recording rehearsals'. I'm saving up to get something like the edirol Firewire FA-101. Cheers

M-Audio: MobilePre USB
This is the best thing I have found. ZERO latency recording is very importnat to me. I use Adobe Audition and this. That is it.
Plug your guitar right in or run it though all the racks and amps you want, straight into the MobilePre. Same with mics. Gives good sound since your music is digitized immediately and not recorded "inside" the PC where all the noise it. I love it!

As was mentioned before....how many tracks do you want to record? What about midi? How's about a control surface?
Personally, I really like the Tascam US 428. Sure, no phantom power, but on the flipside, you get a great control surface, 4 inputs at once, 2 midi ins/outs and more. I use mine with a newly aquired Delta 10/10 card/break out. Great sounds...
Lets hear some about what you're wanting to do and I'm sure we can help you out......
