I have been lurking in the shadows on my boyfriends account for a while now, and thought I would say hi. I just started playing guitar a year ago, after my daddy bought me my first guitar. It's an Epiphone LP Junior. Does anyone know if these are any good? I am having a hard time playing it, but have nothing else to compare it to. My dad wont let me touch his beloved Gibsons and my boyfriend never lets me touch his either. God, boys and their toys. Well anyways any info I could get at this point wouls help. I am just about to give the guitar to my friend Mandy if playing this one doesn't get fun or something. SSSS

SSSS First off, Welcome Aboard! Playing guitar does take some time to get used to. Do not give up. I would suggest some lessons. An Epi LP Junior is a nice guitar for a beginner, so keep it until later on when you get a better guitar.

Thanks, you seem nice. I want to take lessons but I don't want to learn chords and stuff first. I want to learn how to play songs I like. But everyone says you must learn the basics first. Screw that, I just want to rock out and have fun. SSSS

Patience. Find a Teacher who will do both at the same time and teach you the chords and basics of the songs you want to learn to play.

Hey, howdy, hi there. Im glad you made it. Stick around and enjoy the forum. Lord knows we could use a few more females around this sausage fest. ;D But I guess most guitar forums are mostly guys, oh well.
Anyhow I agree with CA, be patient. Find an instructor that will teach you what you want and keep it fun for you. There are all levels of guitar players, some have it their blood, some just want to play so bad they won't quit, some just want to have fun and look cool, and the list goes on. All are welcome here. And there are instructors out there that know this and will be happy to teach you what you want at whatever level you want to learn, for a small fee ofcourse. ;D Well keep on pickin.
Rock on! Zac

Screw that, I just want to rock out and have fun. SSSS Well, I'll give you ten points for style but if the songs you want to play use chords, then you're going to have to learn chords. If you haven't played an instrument before or learned any theory it can be agrivating at first, but it will be more annoying in the long run if you don't learn why you are puting a certain finger on a certain fret. ...and I hope for your sake that your favorite songs aren't written by Yngwie Malmsteen and the like ;D

Thanks guys for all your quick responses. LOL "sausage fest" ;D thats funny. I guess I will look around for lessons that teach what I want to learn. I already know E, A and D chords. I just don't think I will get into theory and that stuff. I just want to learn some Green Day songs and stuff like that. Girls that play guitar are HOT! Thats what I want. SSSS

I recommend Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day. It uses some easy chords (G5, C2+5, D, and Em) and a very simple up and down strum pattern.

Hear that, Chet? She already likes you! How do you do that? ;D ;D ;D They sure are! Welcome aboard Sarah! I'd love to have an LP Junior, it's a nice guitar, so stick with it, hang in there for a while! After some gettin used to the whole thing you won't be able to see how you managed to get by without it.

It's because I'm old. I remind her of her father. Well, you wouldn't keep your gibsons etc from her.... Sarah, tell that your father! By the way, where are you from?

Welcome, and hope you have fun learning and interacting here. It's full of good folks.
SSSS wrote : "I just don't think I will get into theory and that stuff. I just want to learn some Green Day songs and stuff like that. Girls that play guitar are HOT! Thats what I want."
Theory isn't something you have to think of when you play, it's what you should learn before you can rock out. While you're playing, you don't let it cross your mind cause it's already there. If, on the other hand, it's NOT there, good luck...
To paraphrase...Girls who play guitar are hot, but girls who know what they are doing are way hotter...
