Well, thanks for havin' me, I'm always looking for forums and stuff to trade tips, get info, stuff like that. Got an Epi LP Classic in trans blue, and I personally think she's a work of art. The only thing I did to her was replace the stock pickguard with a pearloid piece, and replaced the tailpiece with a TP-6. That's it. Anyhoo, thanks again for having me.

Did you keep the stock gold pot knobs? I felt black speed knobs went with the color better, and even just put them on my vintage sunburst. Neither one came with a pickguard. Welcome aboard!

Is that the the same guitar as zack's? Did they start with pickguards again or what?

Is that the the same guitar as zack's? Did they start with pickguards again or what? Yes, I was the original owner and sold it to Zac when I heard he wanted one just like it and couldn't find one at the time -- I hadn't ever played it, and only bought it because I thought it was so pretty. I'd really wanted a blue one myself in the first place when all I could find was a vintage sunburst one, which I already had and liked just fine. Guitars should be played and not just collected, so it's been win-win for the both of us; he always gives me a nod when he brags on it. Yes, I do believe they began putting pickguards on that model once they started producing them again recently, but originally they came without 'em. I have a black Special Edition Studio Standard that came with a clear pickguard which was a cool compromise, but I do prefer the no-pickguard look (and, with these, no leftover holes either). I removed the pickguards from my Casino (pictured) and DOT as well, but the '56 GoldTop still has its on -- pure stock and retro.

I also like it when there is no pickguard. But I can't remove it from the goldtop, It doesn't look right that way. If it came with a pickguard, keep it...

Sorry I'm answering this a couple days after you posted your reply, but no, I left the gold tophats on. The only thing I did to it was above mentioned. Kinda toying with the idea of burstbucker pros, I aint decided yet. Kinda sounds bitchin' with the stockers, I happen to think. But, there's always room for improvement, with any guitar. I also pulled the rear covers off and blew out a ton of sawdust. I gotta wonder if that's why everyone's having all these problems with switches, pots and such. Anyway, our local guru thought the pickguard would clash with the cream pickup surrounds, but I think it complements them personally. BUT, this reply is getting kinda long so I'll say adieu for now, and I'll kepp y'all posted if I put the Gibson pickups in. ta-ta, pip-pip, cheerio, and all that rot! ;D
