From practically everywhere (except EPI themselves) I've heard you should get all the parts replaced with higher quality ones? When I was making my custom pickguard for my FAT210 I noticed the pots were labeled b250k... From the upgrades ive seen at stewmac, these don't seem to be that bad? Has anyone else opened up their EPIs? What kind of parts did you find?
If it helps at all my guitar was only made in Oct 2003... By SJ

Hi Uriah, concerning the pots please take a look in our FAQ on the mainsite www.epifriends.net I never had problems that much with Epiphone hardware, one toggle switch became scratchy and one or two volume pots also, a bit of contact spray did them good and all was fine, the switch had to be replaced though.

Honestly, I dont see what so bad about the stock parts that come with epiphones. I realize their not the greatest but if you wanted the greatest, wouldn't you buy the greatest? All in all, I don't think the odd faulty switch or pot makes them all bad. You can't expect anything less than a few flaws when mass producing guitars like epi.

I've never understood why so many people bought 'em if they didn't like 'em to begin with. And even then, act like replacement parts were an immediate necessity -- as if the guitars came unassembled....

I "was" not saying that the parts were bad, I was wondering why most people seem to think they break real quick...
Bit off topic... But do you know whose manufactor ID this is? SJ made in china (had a sticker on the back of the neck) 2003.

Oh I have to agree, I just can't understand how other people go around saying that epi is so bad

I gotta say, every forum/review site will have someone complain about the pickup selector switch, but I've never had any hardware issues. As far as quality, here's my take on it: tuners- Grovers are great, they won't need to be replaced. bridge tailpiece- well, they're metal, and I don't think mine will ever "break" strings- obviously they have to be replaced every so often. pickups- the ones on my LP standard (plus) sound good, granted they're no Gibsons, but they work great. selector switch- I imagine it might break eventually - oh darn...that'll cost a whole $10 tone/volume pots- seem good to me, and I like the gold colored top hat knobs too. so basically, Epi parts are good, and if they do break go in and have them replaced (warranty or otherwise).
