Guys… I’m going to be calm about this but believe me, it won’t be easy. You may think this is spamming but it’s not, I'm just spreading the good news!
I have a Fender Blues Junior that I bought based on many recommendations. Yeah, it sounded all right but it had to be turned up LOUD, to really sound good. To tell the truth, I was dissatisfied because I couldn’t get that broken up, overdriven sound I was looking for at lower volumes.
I tried four different distortion / overdrive pedals and a couple of multiple effects pedals as well, spending a fair sized chunk of spare change in the process… but could never get that tone I was searching for. I just ended up using my Yamaha DG60fx most of the time with its built in effects as the BJ gathered dust.
Fortunately, I hooked up with a business called Eurotubes and its owner Bob. He brings tubes over from Europe and matches them or hand picks or does some other kind of magic, but the man will sell you a set of tubes, chosen specifically for your amp. Not only that, he’ll even fine-tune the tubes to the type of music you play. Since a set of tubes, selected for playing Blues and my Blues Junior was only $40, I decided to give it a shot.
First off, the service at Eurotubes is impeccable. Bob does what he says he will, how he says he will and WHEN he says he will. Second, the JJ tubes are incredible! I plugged these into my Blues Junior and it was as if I had bought another, much more expensive amplifier. Suddenly, my amp grew some serious ba**s! A clean setting will give you a nice bright sound with enormous “humph” behind it. Bass response is very tight now and the speaker just sounds like it is under control; no more flabby speaker movement. If you want a distorted sound, the BJ will now go from just a tiny bit grungy to plain NASTY. Another advantage is tremendous gain in sustain.
Eurotubes offers tube sets for many different amps as well as individual tubes. I don’t know if you’ll get the same results I did with your amp but I think any amp will sound better with a set of JJs in it.
