I thought I should try to get some action to this forum...
I am right now in the process of building a fender 5E3 deluxe amp. I bought all the components from the US (had to pay a BIG customs fee, hard lesson) and am just done with the chassis and almost done with the cabinet. I will soon start all the soldering and other fun parts. So, I was wondering if there's any other ampbuilders out there? What were your experiances? Is it addictive (I strongly suspect that it is)?

They're nice, and I thought of building from a kit at first. But I didn't want to pay for the chassis and cabinet (I can do them myself for free at school), and not all kits had european power transformers. Right now the chassis isn't completed, so it's still at my school (we only have metal working class once every second week). And I have done everything that can be done without the chassis, and it's a pain not being able to build the amp when I have had all the parts for about a month!

I'm getting ready to build my first cabinet. I have an extra speaker and some wood, so I'm going to make something for my Valve Junior. I've never built an amp before, but I've done some electronics projects to include building an amateur radio from a kit. I really enjoy working with electronics. When I was stationed in Spain and trying to moderate my alcohol consumption, I took an electronics correspondence course that kept my interest. It was pretty basic in its approach, but was fun. It worked too, everyone would head out to town to blow their paycheck, and I'd pull out the soldering iron and my books. Maybe you could start a thread where you could give a rolling account of how it goes, and what you run into. I don't think I'm ready to do an amp yet, but I may grab an effects kit to try out. Doh! I should have thought of that from the beginning, so I could document the steps. I have been sitting the whole days this weekend soldering, and everything is done except for the power transformer hookups. It's a universal power transformer (100, 120, 220, 240V's) and there are so many wires. I just have to figure out which wires to use! Once that's done I'm finished. I'll keep ya posted!
