Hey Everyone.. I have been looking for a new amp for a while now and stumbled across a "slightly used" Mode 4 half stack.... Actually was a rental unit at a local music shop.I was told it went out aprox. 10-15 times...and was giged for most of those times...Was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Mode4 as well as your thoughts on purchasing a "used" amp..The price is aprox. $1600cdn out the door...Very good price as new they are almost 3 times that new.I did play through it and sounded good.. All chanells sounded good and the outside has no damage on the head(that i could tell)but the cab is showing some scars..still sounds good...Oh and the said it would come with a 90 day warranty... Any thoughts......

Always wanted to check out a Marshall MF head... I am looking for the catalogue here, but can´t find it, if I remember it correctly the MF Series is either full solid state or hybrid... the power amp is in any case non-tube. The MF Series was designed to provide a massive low end sound, designed especially for downtuned or 7 string guitars, what does not mean it can´t be used with normal 6 string guitars. In any case the MF Amps are high gain amps obviously built to be used in metal music... As soon I come across one in a store I will check it out.

Well if your're still looking for a good powerful amp, I suggest the AVT150 half stack. I gave it a review on the main site

Well, I actually do think a Mode Four cannot be compared with an AVT, don´t wanna cause hard feelings, but I think a MF is absolutely professional equipment, the AVT series is somewhat below this... Doesn´t mean I consider an AVT as crap or in any case "inferior". But Mode Four is top of the line in the Marshall catalogue and an alternative to the full tube heads.

I have to agree with Steele, the mode 4 is marshalls top-o-the-line model. However I think they are priced crazily! I know I'll never own one

Oh Yea!! I totally Agree Mode 4 Is Top-O-the-Line.. And I agree they are priced Out Of This World New Don't think I could afford to buy new either, should have moved faster on that used one :'(DOH...BUt the AVT 150 is an awsome sounding amp,and supedupviper is right on the nose with his review on the main page!!!The acoustic simulator tho...dont see much use for it,I'm going back Saturday and I'm pretty sure I'm going for the AVT150 ;D

I dunno....I think the Mode Four is MArshall's Top-O-The-Line solid state or hybrid amp, but....the JCM 2000 TSL 100 or the JCM 800 are MArshalls top power house amps from the current catalog.
On my last amp purchase, I ran both the Mode Four and JCM 2000 TSL 100 half stacks side by side and A/B'd them each with their respective cabs. Sure the MF was a little cheaper and had higher wattage, but the pure sound quality and tone of the TSL blew the MF away. Of course, the MF does have it's advantages, and it does blow away anything in the SS or tube pre catagory, but I don't think I would call it the end all be all Marshall.
Oh well.....my 2 cents. Not saying that the MF is bad or anything. It is better than the AVT series. But for that kind of money, go for the tubes!!!
