Marshall Valvestate VS100R (guitar combo, 100watts ect)
can anyone tell me anything about this mashall guitar combo. Sound, volume, clean/distortion, clarity at higher volumes ect....
Found a cheap one secoundhand. I currently have a peavey solo 130 and it is far too loud for the small rooms and crowds i play at. and the sound quality aint brilliant....
If I bought it id be playing an epi LP standard 03 and 67 V through it.
I have tried the harmony central reveiws but they are so mixed it is hard to decide which are honest and submited by people above the age on 15....
any reveiws guys and gals?..

Buy it. Buy it now! My friend bought one a few months back and we both love it! It sounds so perfect clean and distorted, it is probably one of the best amps Ive ever played through. Its the best tone you can get without getting tube Nice and loud too

I second that!! Buy the combo!! I have the VS100 halfstack and love it. These amps are by far better than the AVT series. They have tone...and plenty of it. The clean starts to break up like a Marshall tube clean does when you start getting over 1/2 on the volume for that chnl. Both distortion chnls are very usable. WHen it was my main gig rig, I would use the first distortion as my main chnl and use the second distortion for a solo boost type thing. Very usable....all you have to do is play with it until you find your tone. I keep my EQ fairly flat on it and it sounds great.
You won't be sorry.....

I´d second this also, if the VS100 is the combo version of the 8100 head. I agree with Cage77 that those earlier Valvestates had a different tone than nowadays models.

Do the positive comments apply to the smaller VS30 and VS65 combos?
Just curious as I've been looking around.

errr... Harmony Central is frustrating. Some reviews say things are good while others say, "blah, blah, this amp is junk, it would be better used a firewood or a boat ancor." Can't really tell what's good and what's not.

I've seen people on harmony central say that gibson custom shops are better off as firewood Dont pay much attention to those guys. I guess the best thing would be to try and go play one.

Great Amp. I almost bought one instead of my Fender Cyber Twin. The main reason I didn't was that they were both used, but the Fender was taken better care of than the Marshall. The one I was looking at had 2X 12" celestions and was like 65 or 85 watts I can't remember which. It was on E-Bay and the guy wanted $850.00 US for it, the same price as I got the Cyber Twin for. But I had played one in a music store just like it 1 week earlier.
Question: Did Marshall discontinue the Valvestate line?

Question: Did Marshall discontinue the Valvestate line? The Valvestate I and II lines have been discontinued but there's still the AVT valvestate line.

the Valvestate II's were the best. Better than the AVT series IMO. With the AVT's, Marshall forgot about tone to allow for effects at a similar price point.
Marhall Valvestae II series is the way to go.....

I second Cage´s opinion again. Marshall focussed too much on effects and more gain and forgot about tone somewhat. A Valvestate II series amp sounded really very close to the old JCM800 tube amps... A 2nd hand 8100 head (100 watts) is the thing you should look for and it has a nice parallel FX loop for inserting maybe an affordable 19" FX device. And still you should save lots of money with this combination instead of buyin a brandnew AVT head.
