I picked up a YCV40 with a single 12" earlier this year, and it sounds unbelievable. I have used Traynor/Yorkville gear over the last 15-20 years, but have only recently gotten into tube amps. They were just too damn expensive. Well I was at a Long & McQuade store (owned by Traynor/Yorkville) and they had a barely used YCV40 in the fire-engine red tolex with the silver grille cloth for $499 canadian (about $375 u.s.). I wasn't going to pass up a deal like that. The thing can produce just about any tone you can think of, and Traynor gear is well know for being damn-near bomb proof. You can't beat 'em. It turns out the red ones were only made for a few months, and they produced about 300 of them. I'll post some pics once I get a chance.

when i plug in my epi-lp and fire it up,it sounds sweeeet. i looked at the red ones and it was 100$ more @ l&m victoria just coulnd't justify it.they had a black used one and they only took off 50$(rental)so i bought a new one.i am impressed.with my epi lp it sounds like a marshal tube and when i want it a little softer it sounds like an old fender.and i agrree with what you said.the sounds you can dial up are excellant.the only prob i read was the glued on logo is cheap( a review from somewhere) but they fixed that with mine.the covering is a-1 and the logo is screwed on.this amp.,.....i am keeping for a long time.you know in australia they are 1500$our money?
thanks norm

That too bad that the prices down under are so much more. But I guess that's the price to be paid for all the beautiful weather/women/scenery. If you ever need another one, let me know. I'm in Canada and can probably put you in touch with someone who could get it to you a bit cheaper. I've seen the newer "red" ones too. They're actually burgundy with what they call an "oatmeal" grille. Mine is almost an orange/red. I just went and posted some photos on my website. Go to members.rogers.com/carphotos/guitars.html and the amp photos are at the bottom of the page.
