Ok I can,t fight the GAS any longer! I have put down all my vices for a few months (except beer) and have saved some cash that I intend to spend on a new Epi LP. I have about $350.00 US so far and when my tax returns come in I should have about $500.00 US to spend. I would like to hear everybodies sugestion on which Epi LP I should buy for the amount of cash I have to spend.

Hey Zac... How about flametop in honey burst ...I think that is the best looking finish of all the flame tops.....That would be my choice..Or vintage cherry burst or tobacco burst or..... maybee even just black?

Every LP I owned, has been a: LP Standard in Ebony.... If you want a good Hard Rocker, you can't go wrong.... The only other one I'm thinking about buying is a Gold Top.... The other models are very nice, but a little to pretty for my taste..... It would be like playing great works of art.... I would be worried about damaging the finish....

I say go for an LP custom, the only bad thing about it is the gold finish on the hardware rubs off easily. Then again if you really want to you could swap it all out for chrome

I'm going to assume that you'll be able to "stretch" that $500 to purchase a LP Standard. Great guitar for that price, IMO.
Cosmetically speaking, both the ebony and the gold top finishes are nice, but to me the classic "Paul" colors are the transparents: tobacco sb., her. cherry sb., honeyb., and my favorite, trans amber. I've found that these finishes vary quite a bit, as does the top wood grain underneath. I would certainly "cherry-pick" the one that appeals to me and go for it!

Sorry, my mistake: I meant vintage sunburst, not tobacco sunburst (I think that is a Gibby color!).

I spent 2 hours in GuitarCenter looking at all of the Les Pauls, even Gibsons(I had the money for one in my pocket). I ended-up buying a Custom plus Lp(Epi)($649.00) in Vintage Sunburst(Flamed Mapletop) w/ gold trim and Grover tuners, plus a Digitech effects pedal($59.95) and Skg Les Paul($89.95) case all for $725.00 including tax. They threw in a free pick. ;D ;D

Hey Zac, why not do what I did? Find one of the online retailers offering Epi LP Blems. I got mine for $349 at Musicians Friend. It`s stamped 2nd on the back of the headstock. but the only imperfection I can find fter a year and a half is a small (think pinpoint) bubble in the clearcoat on the back of the body. Well worth saving $200, in my opinion. After all, I bought it to play, not to sell.

Hi Zac
Similar train of thought to Jimboe, I got, originally for myself, but now kidnapped by my son, a Cherry Epi LP Standard from a store I know and trust. It was an ex-demo model, played in the store for 2 months, I have not found a single mark on it, just because other sweaty fingers had run up and down the neck I saved GBP 100.00 !!!

Thanks for all your great advice and stories about wonderfull deals. The cash flow I was expecting didn't go as I had hoped. But that only means it will take a bit longer to save what I need. I researched all of your suggestions plus every Epi I could find, see or play. I have come to the conclusion that I am infatuated with th LP Classic Quilt Top Tranlucent Blue finish, like ol Geezers. I saw it re-appear in Musiciams Friend as an exclusive and asked Guitar Center about it and of course they can get them. I want to play before I buy and GC said no problem. As soon as the thrill of the new wears off, I am going to take the guitar and go with all black hardware, nobs, toggle ring and pickup trim, just to make it look exactly like I want it to. Thanks again for your responces and sorry it took me so long to reply( I have been away for a bit).
ROCK ON!

Hey Zac...good choice on the Blue Classic Quilt Top. That's the one that I have. You'll like it. I almost swapped everything out for black, knobs etc. but got used to the cream colored details pretty quickly and I like them alot now. The guitar plays like a dream.
