i haven't played this particular model, but I have played some of the discontinued synchromatic line, cheaper models actually and was already quite impressed. I haven't really tested them or anything, I was handed a few of them and they did have that gretschy sound. but those were like duo jet juniors, flat top and so on. so i'd assume that this one is certainly worth checking out!

Hi
I have ordered the electromatic pro in black, should be in end of this week, difficult to get in the UK at present, but this guitar sells for under 300 GBP, I am no big fan of the traditional Gretsch but this guitar is a total utter bargain, I saw it reviewed in What Guitar, tried the one they had in the store and it is amazing for that amount of money.
Get One !!

I didn't plan it this way, but at the rate I'm saving money , I'll get my new Ibanez AR-3000 in the first week of December. www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=AR3000 My birthday is on the 18th, so it will double as a birthday gift. Happy Birth-g.a.s. to me, and a Merry G.A.S.-mass to all.

They need to put reissue the 60s Corvette models. It was my first guitar and it rocked. Really cool vintage look to it.

If you can only afford one choice, doug, go for the small tube amp, and it wouldn't hurt to make sure it's baised "class a"
A few to consider
Carr's new 8 watt Ampeg J12T(15 watt) Fender Blues Junior or Pro Junior(15 watt each) Peavey Classic 20
All are simple, loud, and VERY effective on stage.

I have heard nothing but praise about the blues junior and I'll try one myself some time soon, i'll tell you about it when I have.
