Just wondering if anyone does string the wrap over method. I do because it seems to lower string tension, making bending even easier, it give a good platform for palm muting and cuts down string breakages. I also notice that Zakk Wylde does, Jimmy page does and ive seen several others. heres a link which shows what I'm on about ;D : www.gibson.com/products/epiphone/forum/toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=66288 see the 2nd page of column for a pic of the method. tell me what ya think....

yer,
I recommend giving it a try, if only for 1 set of strings.
i was doubtful at first but after doing it I found it gave the guitar a very differnt feel. which played well for me.

Some guys over at the official forum claimed this "wrap around method" would increase the pressure that the strings put on the bridge, but how can that be? The more flattish angle does exactly the vice versa thing: it decreases this pressure, so you lose sustain possibly... not gain any... ...and it looks weird, not to forget the scratches the tailpiece will suffer when doing this as a regular stringing method. No, I won´t wrap... The angle of the pressure is different. Stringing over the tailpiece allows the tailpiece to be lower on the guitar. Although I have not tried this it would also seem to me that you would lose some of the sustain.

It seems to me that all it does is change the angle of the strings passing over the bridge. I did something a little different that I think would yield the same results. Just raise the stop bar tailpiece up pretty high and you get similar results. I did it on an SG copy and it did feel like the strings were a little more "slinky" and did not seem to affect the sustain. This is just my opinion though.

When this is done a normal stop bar tail piece is not used. They switch out the tail piece with one like off the LP Jr. or a mod one. They actualy have slots for the strings as they wrap around and over.
I see no need for wrapping but then again I never tried it.

zac, that could'nt be further from the truth. People who use the wrap around method use a STANDARD tail peice, and in every case I've seen, absolutely no intentional mod has been made(the strings made small rivets, but that was intended). Check out a pic of Zakk Wylde as his guitars, nothing is changed but hte way the strings pass through the tail peice. Aaron

Twsk8r is right, Zac. This was a topic also over at the official board recently, wrapping strings around a stop tailpiece and using the standard tunamatic bridge. I claim it is most useless, looks like s*** and ruins the surface of your tailpiece.

Don't knock it till you've tried it My friend did this on his gibson corvus and it worked out well...I thought it actually played better, but then again it may have just been my optomistic outlook on new things.

I've never tried it, but for now I think I'll stick to what's "normal," so to speak, rather than compicate things or anything (or mess up my strings/bridge ) maybe sometime I'll try it out though...
