The pickups in my LP Special II are stock. My guitar was made at the Sae Jung factory in Korea. I like it better than most of the other Special IIs I have played and the pickups are a big reason as to why. I am not shure if all the factories use the same pickups but mine sound ballsier to me than the others I have played in Special IIs. And secondly, my guitar is a lowend Epi to be shure. I got it for $200.00 with the wine red finish. If I was to put Gibson humbuckers in it (I know they would sound better) I would have to spend another $200.00. For that kind of money I am very happy with the pickups that it came with.

My favorite pickups that I've actually used are seymour duncan P90s, Gibson 490/498 les paul combo, and Gibson P94s and P90s. The Gibson P94 and P90 sound very different to me, but maybe it was just the guitars they were in (an sg and a les paul jr respectively). I love the seymour duncan alnico II pro in the neck but hated it in the bridge, and given that I love the 59 in the recordings I've heard I believe the Seth Lover would be up my alley. Pre 2001 epiphone pickups suck, the ones in my les paul 7 string were very muddy sounding, not exactly warm, but very muffled. They sounded like a Seymour Duncan invader, which has its advantages.
So what do I have in my epiphone les paul 7 string? Dimarzio PAFs. Unfortunately, I changed the pots to 500k at the same time that I changed the pickups. The pickups are much brighter and are much better for rock and roll, but the epiphone stock pickups were great for metal. I want to try putting alnico magnets in the dimarzios to get a better sound, but I'm not sure if I'll go with alnico II's or V's. I might go III's, it's really up in the air.
HERE'S THE THING: The epiphone pickups only sounded good with a 16 db scoop at 600 hz. With the dimarzios, I'm able to take the equalizer out of my effects chain because they sound perfect as far as eq goes!
