Cosmetically speaking only, and hardly a scientific evaluation, I had noticed that the Saein-made LP's are superior to to others that I've seen, IMHO.
I have an "03 LP Standard Plus (Lefty) and I personally have never seen a prettier book-matched top and finish. And I don't think that I just "lucked-out" with mine-every time that I've seen a really exceptional top, it has been from stamped with an "I".

Gibson awarded the Saein Factory the award for best quality in 1998 and 1999 which was a major accolade from the branded parent company. If you have a 1998 or 99 LP or other Epi with an 'I' serial number prefix then arguably your guitar has that extra history. It says something (you decide) that Gibson have removed their 'Gibson'parent brand Truss rod nut cover from present Chinese made stock.
Whatever ($) caused Gibson to move production to China wasn't quality!
Try finding an advert for a new Epi LP that boasts the county of manufacture!
As always, use your eyes and ears!
