Having the 6 holes reamed to 10mm should take all of 5 minutes once you get ,or find someone with the correct reamer. Just FYI so a local tech doesn't rake you over the coals with labor (although some shops may have a minimum charge thats not time based). Good luck to you man.

Thanks again! I measured the holes tonight and they are indeed 8mm. I took off the faulty tuning head, inspected it, put it back snug and the thing still buzzes. Think it's coming from where the plastic knob mounts the metal pole.

I have to throw in my "don´t use an electric borer" again. Smooth has said it already, reaming out manually with a fitting reamer is probably the best job to do. Take time, take a bottle of beer and if you are not all too clumsy try it yourself, it ain´t that difficult... on the other hand it is not much work for a skilled guitar tech and any decent guitar repair shop will do this work for you for little money.

Not sure I have the huevos to do it myself unless the job cost is significantly high.
In the meantime I'm going to try to apply a little superglue to the joint where the plastic knob meets the metal pole to see if that may stop the buzzing. But I'm still interested in upgrading these heads. I'll post the updates.

There are a couple of companies that still make 8mm tuning machines, however they are not of quality (in other words don't waste your money on them).
An exact replacement set can be ordered from Epiphone/Gibson.
That leaves the option of either reaming them out yourself or paying to have it done. As others have said it is an easy thing to do, IF, you take your time. A tapered reamer costs about $12.00 at your local hardware store.

The super glue worked to fix the buzz and I'm much happier with the tuners now. I won't be replacing them right away, specially since I have to get the headstock reamed. Thanks for all the info!
