well, they are both nice.
I started out on nylon strings. Nice sound. I always use that for classical playing. But for the strum along campfire feeling i think steel is just nicer. steel strings are just more powerful, i love them (and i have a new one, see acoustic forum....)
still I couldn't really say which i like better, nylon or steel.
