That brings to mind an idea I had a while back. Now I don't claim to be a great guitarist, but wouldn't it be fun to have a head cuttin contest here in the forum? You know, head cuttin, like on crossroads where Ralph Machio and Steve Via went at it down in Hell's Juke Joint. (And Yes I know Ralph Machio didn't really play that guitar but I cant remember who did so I siad Ralph Machio,,,,,so there) But wouldn't that be cool? Like a head cuttin area where we could send our hottest show off licks and put them up aginst one and other. And someone take like 15 or twenty of them and mix em down into like a head cuttin jam off. What do yall think? Zac Yeah! It could be awesome! If you send in a hot solo(maybe everybody should have the same song to solo on) And then someone mixed it to one song. It could be real nice. Only one thing: If you dont have recording stuff, how are you gonna do? Hey Zac, I just watched Crossroads again last week, and the head cuttin part is too killer. ;D Ry Cooder plays the blues parts, and Steve Vai played both the kick ass classical and the screwed up version. Iread an interview and he said it was harder to learn the mess-ups than it was to learn the tune right in the first place. ;D Ok so what do the rest of you think? What would be the best format? How would we all go about making this happen? Zac

I won't be joining with my über-flashy guitarskills, because they're non-existant but if you need hosting of the stuff, I might be able to help

Anyone remember the mp3 tracks I currently used to host in the download area? Those backing tracks should be really appropriate for that contest. Everyone who likes to participate in this constest should record a solo to a let´s say 1 minute playback and send it over. Okay, you should have recording facilities at home, but I guess the most of us have. I will edit one of those backings so that it suits the 1 minute limit and send it to everyone who is interested. There is space on www.epifirends.net so hosting those clips is not a big problem. I also could piece the tracks together to one track depending on how many guys take part in that contest.

Sounds cool to me. We are right in the middle of the 109th Fort Worth Soutwestern Exposition Live Stock Show & Rodeo, here at Will Rogers Memorial Center, where I work. So I have had little time to play lately. So if yall are waiting on me to go first, it will be sometime after feb 6th when stock show ends. But I would suggets we not stand on ceremony here, someone lay down a track and kick this puppy off. No one said you only get one chance, it should be more of a back and forth of trying to top the last lick heard if you ask me. I don't want to do it to really cut heads or prove who is the hottest hand. I just think we could have a bit of fun and maybe get familuar with each others playing ability, as well as build on our own bag of tricks from what we hear others do. And as for you guys that think you don't want to do it because your style of leadwork is not flashy, it don't have to be flashy, Lord knows I am no Steve Via. Go ahead and put something down and send it in if you are able. I have seen guys trade licks with completely different styles like metal aginst blues and it was great. The metal guy would just go off on a tangent of arpegieos and hammer on licks, and then the blues guy would just hit a few simple licks with alot of feel and tone and so on. I don't think a winner should be picked because everyone who participates will have fun I think. And thats what matters to me, haveing fun. Zac

Soooo, do you people think we could do such thing? I think it could be real nice. Let's say that somebody puts up a rythm track on the site, that everybody can download. Then you record a solo, and only send in the solo track(it would be to big sound differents if you put up the rythm track to), and then somebody with mixing skills could put them on to the rythm track. It would be fun to listen to the different styles.

My vote would be for the Melodic_Em rock jam. It's middle of the road enough to let each of us get a different take on it...what do you guys think?

All are great ideas. About the rythm tracks. If you want to use one or more tracks that are provided here then great. But if you use your own then send one in dry and one with lead work so others are able to use it as well.
What gave me the idea in the first place, was when I looked over my last 50 posts one day and read all the replies and thought how nice it would be to hear us all play as well as read what we all write. In other words I want to jam with yall. And head cuttin can be fun if we keep it friendly.

But it is no problem like goldtopsnopp said to send in only the lead and I may synchronize it to the rest of the track on Logic Audio. But I will edit a shorter rhythm track first. No one should doodle 3 or more minutes. What do you guys think? 1 minute, maximum 1 1/2?

Yeah! Although I love to solo, I think it's better to have an energic solo for maybe 30 seconds than to have a longer solo, sometimes you can't keep up the energy that came at first. I really would like to hear one metal guy, one blues guy and one rock'n roll guy soloing in the same song. As long as we keep it friendly

Of course we will keep it friendly. We are EPIFRIENDS, not EPIENEMIES... ;D

I have a bit of access to broadband Internet, so I could down load one, and put it on Cakewalk, and record a fully integrated version and send it back in. I think this idea is great, because words only tell so much of a tale, the sounds will fill in the missing part of the picture...I look forward to hearing all of you. ;D

how about a choice. maybe one bluesy, one heavish, one melodic. you could have three to choose from. you just pick one or do all three. just a thought. i dont how difficult that would be
