...not much use for a slide in hard and heavy rock music, and I am too stupid to use it! LOL ;D

Yep,...I use "slides"
A medium glass "Dunlop" on my acoustic Takamine.
A medium steel "Dunlop" on my Epi-LP.
I love to play with em' and learn new ways to use em'.
And if anyone should ask,....IMHO,....use a glass slide for acoustic and a steel slide for your electric.
(totally different tones and effects)
My 2 cents worth,.....*S*

Wanna share on your technique?
I made a copper one using a bit of old pipe and some steel wool... When I use it on the guitar it kinda... makes a strange sliding sound... I can't slide between notes without it sounding off. Is it just because I am using a Copper slide?
Oh yeah, the reason I wanted to make a slide was so i could play Seven Nations army.

I've been using a cigarette lighter(metal one) for both slide and capo(combined with some string)

Uriah, Yeah, there's definitely some serious technique to learn, to be able to play slide well -- that's why you don't see everyone doing it! To eliminate unwanted notes, you'll need to "mute" the strings behind the slide (between it and the nut) to stop them from vibrating, as well as the ones you're not playing. This also opens up a whole new discussion, concerning "open" tunings....

I had a nice $30.00 glass one once. Had it a week. It got knocked off my amp and broke. I use a lighter on the rare occasion the song calls for a slide. I always wanted to learn to use open tunings and play slide that way as well. Just never seemed to get around to it. Well damn it there is no time like the present. I'm gonna look some tabs of slide songs I like and learn em by god! ::gets out the lighter and shakes it:: Inspiration comes in waves sometimes.

Back to tunings... what exactly do you use (and tell me what each string is tuned to )? I'm currently bumbing my way around with a pyrex slide, it can sound good, but in an unconventional way (kind of modest mouse sounding). Ty

Hey! This looks interesting! Oh boy, maybe I should check it out. I never really tried slides, I always felt clumsy with one of my fingers stuck up a metal or glass tube, but this thing here is quite a revolution! Thanx, CA.

Slides, now that brings back some fond memories. Nothing used to impress the chicks more than when I would go out into the crowd, sit down at a table with a bunch of hoties! Grab one of their beer bottles and just do some crazy scales using the bottle as a slide. ;D Then you would guzzle the rest of their beer and hopefully have a new hotel mate later after the gig. Boy, them were the days. Before you think I'm a rude bastard I just want to let you guys know I ended up marrying one of those hoties and she's still my wife to this day. Oz Dog
