Hi, this is my first post here. Nice to meet you all. I have had two Epiphones, a Flying V and my current guitar, a Les Paul. I am thinking of selling it, but I don`t know the model! I know it`s from Korea and was made in 1996. I`ve taken some pics, but I don`t know how to post them! First things first, how do I post/upload pics?

Okay, I got the pics and I will show them on our main site www.epifriends.net It is a Les Paul with a bolt on neck and looks like it is a little bit older, maybe it is an old LP 100? I am not sure... The pictures are shown in the articles section. www.epifriends.net/articles/inhalt.html

Thanks for the help. I picked it up secondhand with insurance money a couple of years ago when my old guitar and amp got stolen. Wasn`t quite sure what it was then and has been bugging me since. Now I`m thinking of selling it, it`s getting to me more! A LP100, perhaps? I figured it must have different specs to the current range because I couldn`t find a model that fit the bill. It`s hard to see in the pics but the body is bound. I don`t know what it is, it has the trapezoids, non open-coil hb (but they could have just had covers put on them), green tuners and the neck`s bolt-on! Well, whatever it is, it plays nice and has served me well up until now. I`m still in two minds about selling it, it would be nice as a back-up.

I am pretty sure what you have is a Les Paul Studio Standard. I have a picture of a cherry sunburst one in a 1997 Epi catalog I have lying around. The studio standard has the trap inlays, bound body, the pickup covers AND also has the bolt on neck. I can see by your pictures that there used to be a pickguard on it like a standard LP. The Studio Standard also had a pickguard on it. Also it has the "Les Paul" between the tuners which is consistant with the Studio Standard. So I am pretty confident that this is what you have. I hope this helps.

Excaptain, wow, thanks. That sounds like it! Yes, there was a cream pickgaurd on it originally. Studio Standard...I see. Well, that solves the mystery. Thanks again to everyone who helped! Now I just have to decide whether or not to sell!

No buddies, you are totally wrong... I have two Les Paul Studios, and both have set necks, not bolt-ons... If you look at the descriptions on the official Epiphone website you will find out, that Studios have set necks. In fact a Studio is a Standard without any bindings. Morva? Is the body of your guitar as thick as it is on "normal" or regular Les Pauls or is it thinner? The body of an LP 100 is actually thinner. Well, maybe your guitar is a quite unpopular special edition of an Epiphone Les Paul that was discontinued for some reason. But it is not a Studio... D'oh! Hmmm, I don´t know how things were back in 1997, as ExCaptain said he has an old catalogue... maybe there was someting like a "Studio Standard", ...one price range below the regular "Studio" with set neck... Hmmm... If so, you might have a pretty rare guitar.

Aha! So it is in fact like I guessed... An additional unpopular model with a bolt-on neck. Were the Studios with set neck available at this time also? Or is the bolt-on model the predecessor of the current Studio models with set neck?

Or is the bolt-on model the predecessor of the current Studio models with set neck? Remember this image? I used it to illustrate the Gibson Les Paul case, but in it is an Epi Studio Standard I bought from a Sam Ash store, being told it was a Special Edition Studio model that only they carried. It was manufactured at the "I" factory in July, 1998, code ELSBTBBH3. All the other "regular" Studio models there at the time I bought it (July, 2000) had set necks. I liked the black finish and black hardware, and it played just as good for $100 less. You can hardly make it out in the shot, but it sports a clear pickguard (which I think is a cool compromise).

Smooth, yes, at first it would appear to be the same...apart from the dot inlay! Old Geezer: That looks like it, I guess the black hardware and clear pickguard in the photo were just one of the finish options available. Even with the different finishes, the top looks to be the same. Were they all with the black hardware? Did you see any other finishes? Special Edition studio model...

Morva, rest assured what you have is a Studio Standard. I am looking at the picture of it in the 1997 Epi Catalog. Even in there it says that the position markers are dots (in the spec section), BUT the photo of it on page 7 clearly shows trap inlays and everything else you have on yours. Also, in this catalog there is no mention of a regular LP Studio model, so I assume that this model is it's predecessor. Also the LP100 was called a "studio" model back then.

Maybe I should add this to the FAQ section... There were Studios with bolt-ons (and they had a binding on the body and neck like regular Standards), and also the LP100 was once called "Studio" Hehe, what a nice mess of nomenclature... But that´s why I like forums, time after time, little by little each mystery is unveiled! ;D
